Hi Pack 731,

This email contains information about the following three items:

1.The Wreaths Across America Service project this Sat Dec 11th
2. Our Faith in God Skit to be performed Sunday Dec 12th
3. Den meetings in December

Wreaths Across America.  Those of you who will be participating in this event need to meet at the Christensen Home Sat Dec 11th at 8:30 am. for uniform check, and carpooling/caravaning. This is a different time than what was previously communicated.  Boys need to have washed and pressed shirts complete with patches sewed back on, and pressed neckerchiefs.  I gave the Webelo boys who are going some extra neckerchiefs that I had, so everyone should be set there.  Boys should wear their nicest jeans, and cub belts.  They need to look as spiffy as possible.  Temps will be a little warmer than they have been (highs in the low  50's that day with a chance of rain).  They will receive instructions promptly at 9:30 by the coordinator, Mark, at committal shelter 1. For a map of the cemetery look at the following link :

The boys will lay wreaths at exactly 10:30.  A Special ceremony will begin at 11:30 in honor of the vets for those of you who wish to stay.

Faith in God Skit  The boys have written their parts and should practice them at home until they are comfortable.  I'll email you individually with the parts that they have written. Each boy is reponsible for coming up with a simple costume for their character that is appropriate for Sunday Primary.  They will be performing their skit twice on Sunday the 12th during Primary: Once for Junior Primary, and once for Senior Primary.  Unfortunately I will not be there that day, but Gary Futral and Lynn Allen will be directing and guiding the boys.  Of course, you parents are welcome to come watch either performance.

December Den Meetings  Our last Den Meeting this year is Dec. 14th at the usual time  Webelos will be finishing up their Citizenship Award.  Wolfs and Bears will be working with Sister Allen that day as  I will be unable to be there. After the break regular Den Mtgs will resume on January 4th.

A reminder to Wolfs and Bears::  During the break please keep a weeks worth of weather records and watch a local weather forcast so that we can all get our Weather beltloops at the January Pack Meeting.

Cub Scouts Nov 30, 2010

Cub Scout Play:

Den Mtgs November 30 and December 7th 2010. Performance on Sunday Dec 12th

As part of the Religious knot requirements we will be working on fulfilling the following requirement from Faith in God:

• Write a poem, story, or short play that teaches a principle of the gospel or is about Heavenly Father's creations. Œ

We will write and practice our play over the next two weeks, and then perform it during Primary Sharing Time on Sunday December 12th.

Each boy will be given a part to write based on an assigned scripture reference.  Each boy will portray a prophet or apostle from the Book of Mormon based on that scripture.  In his part he will need to summarize the scripture and tell in his own words his prophecy, teaching, or experience from the imagined perspective of whichever prophet he is portraying.  It is not appropriate to directly portray the Savior.  While writing parts, they need to keep in mind the points of the theme that we'll be trying to convey.

Written parts are due next week, Tuesday Dec. 7th. Each boy needs to come up with a costume as well. (pillow cases tied on heads, construction paper crowns, and bath robes are perfectly acceptable—whatever the boy imagines is an appropriate costume—and that you as parents approve as being appropriate for Primary on Sunday)

Play Theme:

Jesus is the Savior of the World

1.    Heavenly Father gave His Son to be our Savior

2.    Jesus taught us how to live righteously

3.    Jesus made it possible to be saved from sin

Assignments:

Aaron: Prophet Nephi.  See 1 Nephi 11: 13-20; 11:24, 26-33

Andrew:  King Benjamin.  See Mosiah 3:2-11

Emmanuel:  Prophet Abinadi.  See Mosiah 15:1-9

Joseph: Prophet Samuel the Lamanite.  See Helaman 14:1-9

Kory:  The Prophet Nephi who lived at the time that Christ visited the Americas. See 3 Nephi 11:21-26, 37-39; 3Nephi chapter 12.

Logan:  One of the 12 Apostles at the time that Christ visited the Americas.  See 3 Nephi chapters 13 and 14.

Tips:  Before you write, identify which part of the theme your scripture passage falls into.  Keep that in mind as you write.  Then, pretend that you are the prophet, or apostle during that time.  Write your part as if you were that person teaching people during your life time. Logan and Kory who are reading about things the Savior taught in America will have to pretend they are the prophet and apostle who heard his words spoken, as it is not appropriate to directly portray the Savior.

November 10th

I forgot to blog what we did on November 16th in the Bear Den:

Aaron, Emmanuel and Kory completed water cycle posters toward earning the Weather Belt loop.  They also made charts so that they can keep track of the weather for a week.

We also discussed how to complete the Faith in God requirements that we will be working on going forward.

webelos

Parents of Webleos,

Just a note to let everyone know how well the Webelos have been doing the past few weeks.  In our last three meetings Logan and Andrew have worked on several activity badges.  They have both completed:
    Athlete requirements completed:  1a b c, 2, 3, 4, 5a c d, 7, 8.
    Fittness requirements completed:  1a b, 5, 6.
    Readyman requirements completed:  1a b c, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Logan also worked on his Citizen activity badge and completed requirements 1a b c, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

As you can see, they still have several requirements to be working on, so parents, please help them along the way so they can be awarded these badges at our nest pack meeting.

Thanks to all for all you do to support these outstanding young men.

Cubs today

Hi parents,

Lots of homework this week!  We've been working on our Faith in God requirements for the religious knot in Cubs over the past few weeks.  Today all of the boys wrote letters to a leader, teacher or family member who they respect and are thankful for. When those letters get delivered the boys can mark that off in their Faith in God booklets.

Based on things we've done the previous two den meetings, all the boys should be prepared to both teach a family home evening lesson about Joseph Smith's first vision as well as tell a story from the Book of Mormon that teaches about Faith in Christ. I've attached the Faith in God religious knot requrements to this email, so you can double check the requirements.  As parents it is your job to follow through with this.

All the boys were also given a four generations sheet on which to write down the names of their parents and grandparents  This will help them complete a 4th Faith in God requirement and help them towards the Heritage beltloop as well.  It is not necessary to fill it out through the 4th generation.  Parents and grandparents is sufficient for the requirement. If they bring that information with them to cubs next time, we can do the rest of the requirement with them at den mtg.

Today Bears drew posters depicting the water cycle.  They also made weather stations.  If they will set up those stations and record their observations for a week AND if they will watch a local weather forecast (watch the one on weather.com at any time of day) then they will have completed the Weather Beltloop requirements.  Email me and Bree when your boys complete their assignments: lynnange@bellsouth.net and augustina76@yahoo.com

Whew! That seems like a lot. Please follow through with your boys so they can get credit for the hard work they've done so far.

Looking forward to Joseph Bassett joining the Bears next week.  Happy birthday Joseph! (turning 8 on the 12th)  We meet at 4:15 on Tuesdays.

Make sure you check out the pack blog at http//pack731.blogspot.com/
